Seneca establishing Strickland Museum Committee

A committee is being established by the City of Seneca to develop plans for the future Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander. “Behind the Lunney House there is some property there that we bought that we want to form this new committee for The Bertha Lee Strickland Museum, which will showcase the black community here in Seneca.  This is another thing that will allow us to tell the story about this community.  Many people do not know that back in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s there was a Black Junior College here, that was here for a long time.  There is so much heritage and history there that we want to have a place that we can showcase that and tell the story.” Mayor Alexander tells more about plans for the museum. “Bertha Lee Strickland is the lady that stayed with Mrs. Lunney, she actually lived in that house, so they sort of run hand in hand those tow pieces of property and we are just looking forward to forming this committee.  We want the input from the community.  I know there are a lot people that said they would love to be a part of it.  I know Dr. Martin has been very active and Mollie Smith has been very active in helping to organize that.  We are just looking forward to that coming together this year.” If you are interested in serving on the Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum committee, submit your name and contact information at Seneca City Hall.
