Seneca Honors NFL Legend Bennie Cunningham with New Park

On the first floor of Seneca City Hall, vibrant conceptual artwork is now on display for the city’s planned new park, to be built on the south side of the railroad tracks at the former Kellett Elementary School site and named in memory of Seneca native and Pittsburgh Steelers great Bennie Cunningham.

A standout athlete from junior high through Seneca High School, Clemson University, and a 10-year NFL career that included two Super Bowl victories, Cunningham later returned home to serve as a guidance counselor at West-Oak High School; the park will sit just around the corner from his childhood home, a location Mayor Ronnie O’Kelley calls a fitting tribute to one of the city’s most celebrated sons and the late councilwoman Carol Cunningham…
