Seneca Lions collect $3,000 over Candy Days

Each fall members of the Seneca Lions Club hold Candy Days at the front entrance to Walmart in an effort to raise money to support their mission of hearing and sight conservation.  This year, the Seneca Lions Club collected $3,000, explains publicity chair Jim Atkinson.  “We are so appreciative of the community for how they come there on our Candy Days; we got $3,000, so that was great.  You know that money is going to disappear quickly to help other people in our area.” Atkinson appreciates all the kind words and support the Seneca Lions Club received from the community during the three-day event at Walmart. “For a Lion, one of the neat things is you can be standing out there in the hot sun and somebody will come up and say you folks helped my grandpa or this or that.  We get like a pat on the back.  You think you are getting a little tired out there in that heat and sun coming down on you as you are trying to swap some candy for funds to do some work to help people and when people thanks you it makes a fantastic difference.” Thanks to fundraisers like Candy Days, the Seneca Lions Club has been able to purchase 95 pairs of glasses for low-income residents in the City of Seneca and throughout Oconee County so far this year.
