Seneca Man wants Paraphernalia removed from Stores

A concerned resident voiced his opposition to what he calls drug paraphernalia being sold in stores at last night’s Seneca City Council meeting.  The man asked the mayor and city council to require the enforcement of a law that forbids stores from selling items such as pipes.  Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander gives details. “Frankie Pearson asked to be on the agenda last night and I know he has been working hard going around the whole county talking to different cities and different law enforcement agencies about having a bill that has some teeth in it that makes things happen on not having drug paraphernalia in the stores.  We actually do have something on the books now and it allows us to do certain things.  I know Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw has been working hard on an ordinance that is going before the Oconee County Council next week.  In conversations with Seneca Police Chief John Covington, they are going to review what we have here and look at what the county is proposing too.  I know that Chief Covington and City Attorney Mike Smith are going to be communicating on this bill and sharing the concerns that Mr. Pearson has, so I now in the next few weeks they will be looking at that closely to see what we might be able to do.”  Next week, the Oconee County Council will consider an ordinance similar to Seneca’s that would make it illegal to sell drug paraphernalia in the unincorporated areas of the county.
