Seneca Mayor signs Proclamation for Deaf and Blind Awareness Week

Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander has issued a proclamation recognizing the life and achievements of Helen Keller, who became the first deaf and blind person to attain a Bachelor of Arts degree. It calls attention to the disability of deafness and blindness, which affects more than one million people in the United States. The proclamation reads, “It is in the interest of the City of Seneca to encourage the full participation of Americans with multi-sensory disabilities in our economy by fostering the employment of, and promoting the housing and recreational options for, people who are deaf and blind thus maximizing their opportunities for a productive life in the community of their choice.” In addition, Mayor Alexander declared the week of June 24-30, as Helen Keller Deaf and Blindness Awareness Week in Seneca.
