Seneca Municipal Election Results made Official

The results of Tuesday’s Seneca Municipal Election are now official. The Oconee County Board of Elections approved two fail safe ballots and two provisional ballots on Thursday. However, those four challenge ballots did not change the outcome of the election, tells Oconee County Voter Registration and Elections Director Joy Scharich. “We now have an official summary; Scott Durham 489, Joel Ward 462, Denise Rozman 396, W.C. Honeycutt Jr. 358, Stuart Pohl 349, and Robert B. Holbrooks 220. Total ballots cast 717 and total number of actual votes 2,287.” There was very little to canvass, adds Scharich. “We had very little to canvass so the results didn’t change a lot. Still very low turnout and just glad for the people that did turnout. I think the candidates worked hard.” Under state law, Pohl would have qualified for a recount because Honeycutt’s winning margin was less than 1% of the total votes cast in the election; however, Scharich announced that Pohl, in writing, waived his right to an automatic recount.
