Seneca receives Sound Financial Opinion

Seneca’s outside auditor once again says the city’s financial situation is sound. However, CPA Mike Stancil cautioned the mayor and council last night that, during 2016-17, city departments overspent their budgets. And that, he says, along with mandated accounting rules that require governments to reflect unfunded retirement liability on their ledgers, affects the city’s financial position. Stancil once again urged the city leaders to consider raising property taxes and utility rates. Going forward, however, Stancil sees a bright future for Oconee County’s largest and most vibrant municipality.
