Seneca’s N. 1st Street to Get New Asphalt and a “Road Diet” – Changes Coming Soon
Seneca’s main downtown street, 1st Street, will get fresh pavement and a safety upgrade sooner than expected.
South Carolina DOT officials shared the news at a public meeting on Thursday.
District Traffic Engineer Ben Olson outlined the proposed Road Diet. It will turn the four-lane road into three lanes — two through lanes plus a center left-turn lane — to improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.
New asphalt is already under contract from East 1st through downtown to West 1st. The plan keeps the existing sidewalks and on-street parking.
Olson spoke with Georgia Carolina Radio News’s Dick Mangrum:
Work should start in the coming months.
