Seven killed on SC Highways over Easter Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces seven people were killed on state roads and highways from Friday, March 29, at 6pm until Sunday, March 31, at midnight.  As of March 31, 151 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 192 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012.  Oconee County has yet to experience a highway fatality in 2013 compared to five in 2012 at this same time. Pickens County reports six in 2013 and three in 2012 while Anderson County lists six highway deaths in 2013 and ten in 2012. Of the 111 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 71 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight March 31, 19 pedestrians, 17 motorcyclists and 2 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight March 31, 2013.
