Seven killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of April 29, 276 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 328 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County has experienced 12 in 2018 compared to 16 in 2017. Oconee County lists four traffic fatalities in 2018 compared to five in 2017 at this same time. Pickens County reports three deaths in 2018 and seven in 2017 at this time. Of the 207 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 106 were not wearing seat belts. Through April 29, 38 pedestrians have died compared to 50 in 2017; 23 motorcyclists have died compared to 35 in 2017; and five bicyclists have died compared to seven in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on April 29, 2018.
