SHS FFA competes in the National FFA Agriscience Fair
Seneca High School FFA members Candace Gibby, Lucas Watts, Parker Scruggs, K’Yundra Martin, Brittany Shook, Samantha Sanders, Alexis Moore, Christa Addis, and Emmalee Rawlings along with agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, Christina Alexander, traveled to Louisville, Kentucky for the 86th Annual National FFA Convention on October 30th through November 2nd. The National FFA Convention is held each October. This year’s attendance exceeded 50,000 members, advisors, and guests from all across the United States. Along with being able to network with other members from all around the US, members participated in general sessions, a bison farm tour, a visit to the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory, and a career show and expo, which included more than 1,300 booths representing a variety of agricultural related colleges, businesses and companies, as well as organizations who all share the same passion for agriculture. Several Seneca FFA members also competed and placed in the National FFA Agriscience Fair. Christa Addis, and Emmalee Rawlings placed 4th in the Social Systems category with their project titled “What are Kids Eating these Days?”. K’Yundra Martin and Brittany Shook placed 4th in the Environmental Services/Natural Resource Systems category with their project titled “Using Trees to Determine Direction”. Alexus Moore placed 14th in the Food Products and Processing Systems category with her project titled “Do Different Varieties of Citrus Fruits have the Same Levels of Vitamin C?” Seneca agriculture teacher and FFA advisor, Christina Alexander, states, “I could not be more proud of the great job these ladies did! They have worked hard to develop these projects and it certainly paid off.” The National FFA Convention is one of the largest annual student conventions in the country. The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
