SIDE BY SIDE RESTAURANTS AHEAD FOR SENECA

To the delight of the mayor, the Seneca downtown is in line for more restaurants. The block of N. Townville, between Main and N. 1st Streets, could see two new restaurants. One is a Mayberry’s restaurant and the other, according to Mayor Alexander, is an eatery that will feature tacos. The taco restaurant is to take over space used by the Oconee Democratic Party. On the second floor will be apartments. Alexander says there remains interest in the city-owned former Hometown food store. One potential developer has been identified as a couple that has helped re-develop part of the west side of the downtown Greenville commercial district. The Seneca mayor on Saturday knocked down speculation that the city has already decided to renovate—instead of tear down—the former Harper’s 5 and 10 and Kimbrell’s furniture buildings that the city recently took possession of. “We have to address an asbestos situation to see what we have to do. It’s my understanding we are getting all that information right now. What the end possibility will be, we will be studying about that…,” Alexander told us. The mayor predicts that, during a meeting late this month, the mayor and council will receive more information.
