Six killed on SC Highways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces six people were killed on state roads and highways from Friday, March 1, at 6pm until Sunday, March 3, at midnight. As of March 3, 101 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 127 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012.  Oconee County has yet to experience a highway fatality in 2013, compared to four in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County reports six deaths in 2013 and three in 2012.  Anderson County lists two highway fatalities in 2013 compared to seven in 2012. Of the 71 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 52 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight March 3, 16 pedestrians, 11 motorcyclists and 2 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight March 3, 2013.
