Six killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces six people were killed on state roadways from Friday, October 4, at 6pm until Sunday, October 6, at midnight.  As of October 6, 565 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 631 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. Oconee County reports two highway fatalities in 2013 compared to 11 in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County lists 12 in 2013 and 13 in 2012.  Anderson County has experienced 24 highway deaths in 2013 compared to 39 in 2012. Of the 372 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 209 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight October 6, 62 pedestrians, 96 motorcyclists and 12 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight October 6, 2013.
