Six killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that six people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Nov. 19, 2017, 850 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 908 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Locally, Anderson County reports 38 roadway fatalities in 2017 compared to 55 in 2016 at this same time. Pickens County lists 19 in 2017 and 17 in 2016. Oconee County has experienced 16 roadway fatalities in 2017 compared to 10 in 2016. Of the 572 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 276 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Nov. 19, 130 pedestrians have died compared to 127 in 2016; 104 motorcyclists have died compared to 137 in 2016; and 17 bicyclists have died compared to 22 in 2016 on state roadways.
