Six killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Jan. 14, 2018, 30 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 29 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County reports two deaths in 2018 compared to one in 2017 at this same time. Pickens County lists zero in 2018 and two in 2017. Oconee County has experienced one roadway fatality in 2018 compared to zero in 2017 at this same time. Of the 25 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 16 were not wearing safety belts. Through midnight Jan. 14, four pedestrians have died compared to two in 2017; one motorcyclist has died compared to one in 2017; and zero bicyclists have died each of the past two years at this time on state roadways.
