Six killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of July 15, 507 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 556 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety list Anderson County with 25 fatalities in 2018 compared to 23 in 2017. Oconee County reports 10 in 2018 and 8 in 2017. Pickens County has experienced 7 roadway deaths in 2018 compared to 13 in 2017 at this same time. Of the 362 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 181 were not wearing seat belts. Through July 15, 70 pedestrians have died compared to 78 in 2017; 51 motorcyclists have died compared to 59 in 2017; and nine bicyclists have died compared to 10 in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on July 15, 2018.
