Six killed over weekend on SC Highways

Six people were killed on South Carolina highways over the weekend.  The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports that the deadly accidents occurred between Friday, February 22, at 6pm until Sunday, February 24, at midnight.  As of February 24, 82 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 114 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. Oconee County has yet to experience a highway fatality in 2013 compared to three at this same time in 2012.  Pickens County reports six deaths in 2013 and three in 2012.  Anderson County lists one fatality in 2013, compared to seven in 2012. Of the 56 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 38 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight February 24, 13 pedestrians, 10 motorcyclists and 2 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight February 24, 2013.
