Social Media Posts Do Not Rise To The Level Of Criminal Prosecution, According to Oconee County Sheriff’s Office

(Seneca, SC)———-The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release Thursday updating citizens on reports from a Wednesday press release indicating that a juvenile made a generalized threat to inflict harm at a nonspecific church by the use of a firearm. The reported threat was posted on the juvenile’s social media site recently. 

According to Thursday’s press release, the individual in question was interviewed by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. The press release went on to say that after studying the social media post that it did not rise to the level of criminal prosecution. 

The Sheriff’s Office went on to say that there is no immediate danger to any church by this individual or his associates that has been uncovered. 

The Sheriff’s Office continues to ask all churches to remain vigilant during their worship services and church activities.
