South Carolina Citizen Weather Observer Week
This week, March 1-7, by gubernatorial proclamation is South Carolina Citizen Weather Observer Week. This week highlights the efforts made by people like Barbara Wilson of Walhalla, whose family has spent decades observing and recording high and low temperatures, precipitation amounts and providing critical information during extreme weather events. Volunteers like Wilson stand as the cornerstone of the nation’s weather history, and thanks to their dedication, have allowed climatologists to monitor weather patterns since record keeping began in the mid- to late-1800s.
