South Carolina Department Of Health And Environmental Control Reports Case Of Possible Rabies Exposure In Anderson County

(Seneca, SC)——-The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control reported yesterday that one Anderson County resident has been referred to their health care provider after potentially being exposed to rabies.

According to a press release from SCDHEC, the potential exposure occurred on July 19th when the victim was attacked by a cat that tested positive for the disease.

The cat was submitted to DHEC’s laboratory for testing on July 19th and was confirmed to have rabies on July 22nd.

According to stats from SCDHEC, the cat was the sixth animal in Anderson County to test positive for rabies in 2019 and so far this year, there have been 82 cases of rabid animals statewide.
