South Carolina Enhances Rabies Awareness Post-World Rabies Day
World Rabies Day, which was observed on Sunday, September 28, raises awareness about rabies prevention and honors Louis Pasteur, the creator of the rabies vaccine. The South Carolina health department has introduced a new webpage detailing confirmed animal rabies cases. In 2024, the state’s rabies program conducted over 15,000 investigations, confirming 81 positive cases, including seven in Oconee County. DPH will routinely post positive animal tests by geographic area to provide statewide rabies incidence and trend data. The new reporting format can be found on DPH’s Data, Reports on Rabies webpage.
