South Carolina Reports First Pediatric Flu-Related Death

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) has announced the state’s first pediatric flu-related death this season, involving a child in the Upstate Region, amid widespread flu activity with 25 flu-associated deaths reported as of January 3, 2026 (season starting September 28, 2025). Dr. Linda Bell extended condolences and urged everyone 6 months and older to get vaccinated against flu, COVID-19, and RSV, as the shot provides the best protection after about two weeks.
