South Carolina’s 2025 Tax-Free Weekend Begins August 1

South Carolina’s annual Tax-Free Weekend, running August 1-3, 2025, allows shoppers to purchase eligible school supplies, computers, clothing, shoes, and certain bed and bath items without paying the state’s 6% sales tax or any local taxes. All retailers selling eligible items participate, and the exemption applies whether shopping in-store or online, regardless of price or if items are new or used.

Eligible items include classroom school supplies (e.g., musical instruments, calculators, headphones), computers and technology (printers and software; computer parts only when sold with a computer), all clothing and footwear (e.g., uniforms, swimwear), and specific bed and bath items (e.g., sheets, towels). Last year, shoppers saved over $1.3 million in sales tax on more than $22.3 million in tax-free purchases.
