Southern Wesleyan 10 Percent Scholarship Offer For Online Program For School District Of Oconee County Employees A Continuation Of Important Partnership

We reported last week that Southern Wesleyan University has announced that it will award a 10 percent scholarship to employees of the School District of Oconee County who enroll in online degree programs at the University. According to Doctor Sandra McLendon, who is the dean of the university’s School of Education, the scholarship program is a natural continuation of the partnership the University has had with the School District.

Dr. McLendon said the University met with Dr. Michael Thorsland, Superintendent of Educations for the School District of Oconee County, and that Dr. Thorsland was very interested in furthering the professional development of all employees with the School District. Dr. McLendon said that Southern Wesleyan has placed a number of students in teaching, coaching and administration jobs in the School District and that the scholarship program is an extension of the ongoing partnership with the School District and the University wants to continue to foster those relationship.

Some of the programs that employees can enroll in online includes a Masters Degree in Classroom teaching that includes an endorsement in Classroom Leadership, a Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision that includes a Certification in Supervision and Administration, a new Doctorate program in Education Curriculum and Assessment and in the fall, an E-Learning and Instructional Design Program.
