Special Bridge Replacement Program

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks public comment on a proposed 2013 Act 98 Special Bridge Replacement Program prior to inclusion in the South Carolina Transportation Improvement Program. Projects listed in the program have been allotted $52,944,000 and involves the replacement of 90 bridges in 33 counties across the state. Under the program, only load-restricted and closed bridges will be replaced. The South Carolina Department of Transportation distributed funding for the projects to the state’s seven Engineering Districts based on the percentage of these types of bridges in each district. The program focuses on bridges that can be replaced on existing alignment using pre-cast voided box bridges with minimal approach work. Comments will be accepted until the close of business on November 6th.  If you would like to make a comment about the recommendation, you may send comments to Mark Pleasant, Statewide Planning Chief at SCDOT, P.O. Box 191, Columbia, SC, 29202.
