Sports Update For Friday, August 30th, 2019; David Crane Era Of Seneca Bobcat Football Begins Tonight

(Seneca, SC)—————The David Crane era of Seneca Bobcat football begins tonight at Seneca hosts #3 Chapman at Tom Bass Field. Coach Crane says that this opener is special for a lot of different reasons.

“There’s something always special about the opener of every season and even more so this one, of course for a variety of reasons but it is something we are very excited about,” says Coach Crane.

Chapman picked up a win last week in Week Zero by a score of 52-37 over Union County, a game that Chapman coach Mark Hodge believes will help his team tonight.

Coach Hodge says that Chapman returns 18 starters and there are high expectations for the season.

“We’re fortunate to come into this game with Seneca because we have already played a game,” says Coach Hodge. “That has helped as well because we are able to fully evaluate after already having playing a ballgame. Hopefully, we will be better this week than we were last week.’

Coming up next hour will be our Chick-fil-A of Seneca Bobcat Coaches Show with Coach Crane, then our coverage of Bobcat football begins tonight at 6pm with the McDonald’s tailgate show at 6pm, the Tri-Star Imports Pre-game show from Tom Bass Field at 7pm and then kickoff tonight at 7:30pm.

A rivalry game is in store in Picket Post tonight as West-Oak travels to face 1-0 Walhalla. Walhalla Head Coach Padgett Johnson expects a battle tonight at Razorback Stadium.

“They (West-Oak) are a very improved football team from last year based off the video I have seen,” says Coach Padgett. “Their offense looks very efficient with a veteran quarterback and an experience offensive line. They (West-Oak) looks like they have a lot more speed in the backfield so I think they are going to pose a lot of difficulties for our defense.”

Coach Padgett believes the Walhalla offense will have to funtion at a high level due to the improvement of the West-Oak defense. Coach Padgett complemented Coach Carson from West-Oak and believes the Warrior football program is on the upward trend.

Other games around the area for Week One tonight include Easley at Daniel, Berea at Liberty, Woodmont at Palmetto, B-HP at Powdersville, Emerald at T.L. Hanna, Pendleton at Pickens and Westside at Boiling Springs.

As you well know by now, #1 Clemson began defense of their National Championship with a 52-14 win over Georgia Tech in Death Valley.

Clemson rushed for 411 yards in the game and had 632 yards of total offense. Travis Etienne had 12 carries for 205 yards and a touchdown and Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons finished with 10 tackles.

Our coverage of South Carolina football begins tomorrow afternoon as the Gamecocks take on North Carolina in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Airtime is 12:30pm with a kickoff set at 3:30pm.
