Sports Update For Monday, April 29th, 2019; Seneca Baseball Loses To Woodruff In AAA Upper State Playoffs

(Seneca, SC)——————-The Seneca baseball team lost in extra innings Saturday to Woodruff by a score of 3-2 in 10 innings in the AAA Upper State playoffs. Mason Fassino and Ryan Moore drove in both Seneca runs. 

Both Seneca soccer teams will be involved in postseason action this week. The women’s team will play at Camden tonight at 6pm while the men’s team will host Keenan Tuesday night at 6pm. 

The Seneca men’s tennis team is also involved at in postseason action and they will play at Clinton Tuesday at 6pm while the Upper State Qualifier for Track and Field will be held at Seneca on Saturday, May 4th at 9am. 

The Clemson baseball team lost two out of three games on the road this weekend at Georgia Tech. The Tigers avoided the sweep with an 11-7 win yesterday. Clemson is now 27-18 overall and 12-12 in the ACC. 

The South Carolina baseball team was swept over the weekend by Missouri in the SEC. The Gamecocks fell to 24-20 overall and 5-16 in the SEC. 

The NFL draft wrapped up over the weekend with a total of six Clemson football players selected over the three day event. Besides Clemson defensive linemen Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence being selected in the first round, Clemson cornerback Trayvon Mullen was selected in the second round by the Oakland Raiders. Clemson defensive end Austin Bryant was selected in the fourth round by the Detroit Lions and Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow was selected in the fifth round by the Oakland Raiders. 

Clemson Head Football Coach Dabo Swinnery agreed to a new 10 year contract late last week. The total value of the contract is $93 million dollars. Also agreeing to new contracts during last week’s Board of Trustees meetings was Athletic Director Dan Radakovich and women’s basketball Head Coach Amanda Butler, who agreed to a new 5 year contract. 

The Southern Wesleyan women’s track team finished in the runner-up position in the recent Conference Carolinas track and field meet while the men’s team placed fifth. The Southern Wesleyan softball team advanced to the Championship game of the Conference Carolinas tournament against Lees-McRae after winning two games on day one and after splitting two games in the tournament over the weekend. 

The city of Clemson has announced that Spring Youth Tennis Clinics will be held staring tomorrow on a first-come, first-serve basis. The clinic will be taught by the Clemson University Tennis Staff and hosted by the city of Clemson Parks and Recreation Department at Nettles Park. Registration is now open for Ages 6-9 in Coed Divisions. The lessons cost $15.00 and will be held tomorrow from 4:30pm until 5:30pm. Registration and payment is required online at least 24 hours prior to attendance by going to www.cityofclemson.org.
