Sports Update For Thursday, August 22nd, 2019; Week Zero For The High School Football Season Kicks Off Tomorrow Night

(Seneca, SC)—–High school football begins tomorrow night with several games on tap for what is known as Week Zero.

One of those games finds the Crescent Tigers, a member of the Western AAA conference, hosting McCormick.

Crescent Head Coach Sheldon Evans says that fall camp has been rough on his team but the Tigers are showing great heart as they get ready for the first game of the season.

Coach Evans said that Crescent has scrimmaged against 4A and 5A schools and recently played Wren in a Jamboree.  The Tigers lost 21 seniors from last year’s team and only return 2 starters on offense and three starters on defense.

The University of South Carolina has announced their 2019-2020 non-conference schedule for men’s basketball.

The Gamecocks will begin their season at home on Wednesday, November 6th with a game against North Alabama.

Carolina will also have home games against Wyoming, Cleveland State, George Washington, Houston and Stetson as well as home games against Boston University and Gardner-Webb as part of the Cancun Challenge.

South Carolina will play Wichita State as part of the Cancun Challenge in Mexico and a possible game with either West Virginia or Northern Iowa in that tournament as well.

The Gamecocks will play a road game against UMass and then Carolina will travel to Clemson on December 15th for a game at Littlejohn Coliseum.  The final non-conference road game for the Gamecocks will be against defending national champion Virginia on December 22nd.
