Sports Update For Thursday, December 5th, 2019; Clemson Running Back Travis Etienne Named ACC Player Of The Year

(Seneca, SC)———–Clemson running back Travis Etienne and Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons were named the ACC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year respectively by the ACC yesterday while Etienne was also named the overall ACC Player of the Year. 

Etienne has won the ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons, becoming the first ACC player to accomplish that feat since QB Lamar Jackson from Louisville. Etienne is also the first Clemson player at any position to win the ACC Player of the Year award in back to back years since former Clemson QB Steve Fuller in 1977 and 1978. 

Clemson has also won the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in back-to-back years after former Clemson Defensive End Clelin Ferrell won last year’s award. 

Clemson also placed sixteen players on either the ACC’s first, second or third teams announced earlier this week by the conference. 

South Carolina announced earlier this week that it has agreed to a home and home series with Miami. 

The Hurricanes will visit Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia on September 5th, 2026 with South Carolina returning the game in South Florida on September 11th, 2027. 

The last time Miami and South Carolina played a game was the 2014 Duck Commander Independence Bowl with the Gamecocks defeating the Hurricanes 24-21. 

In college basketball tonight, Furman will travel to Alabama to take on 14th ranked Auburn. Tipoff time is set for 9pm eastern time on the SEC Network. 

Last night, the Clemson women’s basketball team lost to Iowa last night on the road 74-60 in the women’s ACC/Big 10 challenge to fall to 3-6 on the season. 

South Carolina picked up a win on the road last night at UMass by a score of 84-80 behind 24 points from A.J. Lawson.
