Sports Update For Thursday, May 2nd, 2019; Walhalla Basketball Player Eli Rowland Signs Letter Of Intent To Play Basketball At Erskine

(Seneca, SC)———————The West-Oak Warriors defeated the Seneca Bobcats by two strokes to win the Region 1-AAA golf tournament that was held at two different golf courses, Oconee Country Club and Falcon’s Lair.

West-Oak’s team score for the two rounds was 728 while Seneca’s team score was 730.

Tyson Gentry from Seneca was the medalist for the tournament and was named the Region 1-AAA player of the year. Also making the all-Region team, along with Tyson Gentry, by finishing in the top 12 individually, were Hunter Moody from Seneca as well as Trey Miller, Carson Williams and Corey Holcomb from West-Oak.

Seneca and West-Oak have also qualified for the Upper State tournament next Monday at Three Pines Country Club.

Walhalla basketball player Eli Rowland signed a letter of intent yesterday to play college basketball with Erskine College. Rowland, who also considered Southern Wesleyan University and Toccoa Falls College, will be attending college with his brother Matthew.

Rowland said attending the same college as his brother was motivation to go to Erskine but the relationship he developed with the coaches played a big part in his decision as well.  Rowland says the coaches with Erskine maintained contact with him throughout the season to see how things were going and to ask Rowland how he was doing.

Walhalla men’s basketball Bobby Norizan hopes that Eli’s signed with Erskine will also make an impression on the underclassmen on the team to follow in his footsteps.  Coach Norizan said that hard work pays off and if you work hard, good things are going happen.  Coach Norizan said that Eli had a desire to play college basketball and discussed what he wanted to academically in regards to a major.

The Seneca men’s soccer team is scheduled to play Woodruff at home tonight at 6:30pm in the AAA Upper State playoffs. Seneca defeated Keenan 10-0 on Tuesday night.
