Sports Update For Wednesday, June 5th, 2019; South Carolina Baseball Player Drafted On Day Two Of MLB Draft

(Seneca, SC)————South Carolina senior baseball player T.J. Hopkins was selected on the second day of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft yesterday. Hopkins was selected in the ninth round by the Cincinnati Reds. 

Hopkins started and played in all 56 games this season for the Gamecocks. 

The Clemson Track and Field Team will kick off competition at the NCAA Track and Field Championship on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin. Clemson has a total of nine championship entries and traveled 19 total student-athletes, including relay reserves, on the trip to Texas. South Carolina is also well represented at the NCAA Track and Field Championships as seven Gamecocks will participate in individual events and the men’s and women’s 4×400 relay teams will compete as well.

Furman University recently announced that Tim Johnson has joined the Furman’s men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach. Johnson previously served as assistant coach on staff’s at Wofford College and most recently at James Madison. 

Softball player Lydia Clanton of Southern Wesleyan has been honored by recently being named to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Southeast Region team as the second baseman on the Second Team.
