Sports Update For Wednesday, May 15th, 2019; South Carolina And Clemson Pick Up Wins In College Baseball Action Tuesday Night

(Seneca, SC)———South Carolina picked up a win last night in their final regular season home game at Founder’s Park with a 1-0 win over USC-Upstate. Freshman Jonah Beamon had the game winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning. Carolina improves to 27-25 on the season. 

Clemson scored seven runs in the second inning and Grayson Byrd went three for six with a grand slam and six RBI’s as Clemson defeated Coastal Carolina 14-3 to improve to 31-22 on the year. 

The Clemson golf team is in a tie for second place heading into the final round of the Austin, TX regional in the NCAA men’s golf tournament. Clemson is in a tie for second place with Pepperdine behind the host school and first place team Texas. Bryson Nimmer shot a two under par 69 yesterday. 

South Carolina is currently in seventh place heading into the final round of the Pullma, WA regional of the NCAA men’s golf tournament. Scott Stevens shot a four under par 67 yesterday. Carolina is four shots back from the cut line. Texas A & M is in first place heading into the final round. 

Furman softball player Melissa Guimbarda has been named the Southern Conference Softball player of the year. The sophomore, who has pitched, played first base and left field, batted .348 this season with 16 home runs and 42 RBI’s.
