sports update for Wednesday, November 6th, 2019; clemson ranked fifth in first college football playoff poll

(Seneca, SC)——–The Clemson Tigers are ranked fifth this morning in the first College Football Playoff poll that was announced last night.

Ohio State is ranked number one, followed by LSU, Alabama and then Penn State.

The Tigers will be on the road Saturday night in Raleigh to take on N.C. State and Coach Head Coach Dabo Swinney says that Carter-Finley Stadium is always a tough place to play.

“Really a tough task to play there, I think their crowd, they show up,” says Coach Swinney. “That’s one of the things that I’ve had respect for N.C. State, and their fans, because they show up. Regardless of whether they are 4-4 or 8-0, they show up and they do a good job.”

Other games in the ACC this week will have Florida State at Boston College, Georgia Tech at Virginia, Louisville at Miami, #19 Wake Forest at Virginia Tech and Notre Dame at Duke.

The first night of college basketball last night saw Clemson fall to Virginia Tech 67-60. John Newman III led Clemson with 15 points. The Tigers shot only 23% from the field in the second half.

Furman defeated Gardner-Webb on the road last night 70-63 behind 18 points from Noah Gurley.

Aliyah Boston picked up a triple-double last night for the South Carolina women’s basketball team as the #8 ranked Gamecocks defeated Alabama State 103-43.
