SRO Fired from OCSO After DHS Investigation

The Department of Homeland Security came to Walhalla last week to meet with Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, who was briefed on an ongoing investigation that apparently began several months ago. Now, Sheriff Crenshaw has dismissed a school resource officer for what has been described as improper conduct.

Sheriff Crenshaw said the investigation by DHS into former deputy John Towery does not involve any of his other employees at the Sheriff’s Office, nor does it involve any other citizens of Oconee County.

While he did not elaborate on exact details of the investigation, he said it pertained to something outside of Oconee County, but not the incident at the Capitol in Washington, DC on January 6.

Towery had been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2012.
