Start protecting Pets from Mosquitoes

With all the recent rain, a pesky insect is back and pet owners are being encouraged to start protecting their furry friends against mosquitoes, tells Angel Newman with the Oconee Humane Society. “I don’t know if you have seen mosquitoes but they’re all over where I live. Mosquitoes transmit heartworms, so we want people to get their pets on that monthly heartworm prevention plan. It’s just a little treat that you give them once a month and you don’t worry about it because mosquitoes carry it and infect dogs. We need to get on that now and get pets inoculated against getting this, it is a rough disease for pets to deal with.” Reduce mosquitoes around your home by eliminating sites that have standing water. Most mosquitoes bite during dawn, dusk, twilight and night, so avoid exposure during these times.
