State Of Homelessness Report Presentation Part Of Tuesday Night’s Oconee County Council Meeting

(Seneca, SC)———Oconee County Council held their regular council meeting last night and the meeting included a presentation by Lorain Crowl, who is Executive Director from United Housing Connections, who gave a presentation to the council from the 2019 SC State of Homelessness Report.

According to one survey that was taken during one night in January of this year, Oconee County had 70 homeless persons that night, which placed Oconee County 11th in the state.  Another survey from the report showed that in 2017-2018, over 5,000 children in schools in the Upstate were homeless.

Crowl told 94.1 The Lake last night that the 70 individuals that were counted during that one night can be multiplied by four to get a better perspective of the homeless issue.

Crowl said that those who are homeless are visiting organizations such as Our Daily Bread and Our Daily Rest but she feels that more can be done, especially on the front end and also in the schools as well.

Crowl says that more also needs to be done in regards to finding and identifying what is causing families to lose the ability to care for themselves, upon which the community can come alongside to help them.
