Stewart awarded Singleton Scholarship

Seneca High School (SHS) track and cross country senior Elijah Stewart was awarded the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Scholarship by the South Carolina Track and Cross Country Coaches Association this week, reports www.senecabobcats.com. The Singleton Scholarship, named after a Goose Creek Track and Field Coach who was one of the nine victims of the Emmanuel Church shooting in Charleston, is awarded to 2 senior track or cross country athletes in the state of South Carolina every year. The nominees fill out an application to show how they display the “Six Pillars of Character”- Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Elijah was one of 16 applicants, and was selected as one of the two winners by the Track and Cross Country Coaches Association. Over six years of running with SHS, Elijah is having a strong senior season. He finished 5th in the state during cross country season, making the All State Team for the 2nd year in a row, and being named to the Shrine Bowl Run team. During track season, he has led the Bobcats to their 5th straight region title, being named Region Athlete of the Year. He will compete in four events in the state championship this weekend at Spring Valley High School. Elijah will receive a $600 scholarship from the coaches association, which will be used to further his education and running career at Southern Wesleyan University.
