Street And Road Repaving Work Scheduled In The City Of Clemson

(Seneca, SC)——-Weather permitting this week, there will be plenty of road construction and resurfacing work going on in the city of Clemson as Pickens Construction is scheduled to work on road repair and overlay work on twelve city streets: Riverpoint Drive, Elm Street, Hillcrest Avenue, Foy Creek Drive, Ashley Road, Colleton Court, Summer Walk Lane, Kendra Place, Bayberry Lane, Berkeley Court, Valley View Drive and Valley View Court. This work should last throughout the summer.

Also, the South Carolina Department of Transportation has announced that, weather permitting, Highway 123 from Lake Hartwell to Highway 93 will be repaved during the nighttime hours between 9pm and 7am. This repaving work will facilitate lane closures during the repaving process.

Clemson Mayor J.C. Cook was a guest on the Coffee Time program last week and he talked about the road work projects going on in the city of Clemson.

Mayor Cook said that the city has a street repaving budget every year and the city does a survey of all the streets in the city every year and those streets are ranked.

Based on that survey, the city determines which streets need to be repaved and then the city looks at how much money is in the budget to determine how many streets can be repaved, according to the Mayor.

Mayor Cook said that Pickens County has graciously helped all the cities in Pickens County by allowing part of the road use fee money to be returned back to the cities so the paving budget is larger than it used to be.

The Mayor went on to say that some of the roads and streets in the city are state maintained roads so the city has no control over those, however, the city works with the C-Fund committee of Pickens County to work on getting those roads and streets in good shape as well.
