Stumphouse Tunnel Reopens After Sinkhole Closure

Oconee County officials announced that the Stumphouse Tunnel has reopened to the public after a temporary closure caused by a sinkhole in the area. County Councilman Matthew Durham confirmed the tunnel was thoroughly inspected and deemed safe with no structural concerns, while Clemson University engineering experts assisted in the assessment. Officials had previously asked visitors to avoid entering the tunnel during the closure, though Issaqueena Falls and the mountain biking trails remained open throughout. The historic attraction is now fully accessible once again.
