Substantial Field of Candidates Files for Oconee County and State Races

At Monday’s filing deadline, a large slate of candidates entered this year’s elections in South Carolina, with Oconee County seeing multiple contenders for several key offices, including county council and two state House seats. In State House District 1, incumbent Republican Bill Whitmire faces challengers Democrats Juni Lynch and Jasmine Williams, plus Republican Craig A. Diem. In District 2, first-term Republican Adam Duncan seeks re-election against Democrat Candace Schutt and Libertarian Christopher Damien Des Marais.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, an Oconee County resident, is among 13 candidates vying for his six-year term, while U.S. Rep. Sheri Biggs filed for re-election against Libertarian Brian Corriea and Democrats Ernest E. Mackins and Eunice Lehmacher. For Oconee County Council, Seat 1 features Republican Bill Bull and Democrat John JB Brubacher; in Seat 3, incumbent Don Mize (Republican) faces Republican Landon Lyle and Democrats Devin Clay and Lee Sheehan.

Additionally, Danny Lee Ford II—son of former Clemson football coach Danny Ford—is running in the Republican primary for state agriculture commissioner against six other candidates. Voters should note the primary election on June 9 and the general election on November 3.
