Summer Camps at the Ag Museum

The Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina is holding a summer camp for children ages 6-8; 5 and 9-year-olds welcome if qualified sibling is attending. Dates for the camp are Aug. 8-10, and the theme for the camp will revolve around STEM activities. Each day costs $10 and children may sign up for 1, 2, or all 3 days. Camp hours are 10am to 1pm. Day 1 activities revolve around lessons and experiments involving the six simple machines. Ecology activities will include leaf ID-ing, experiments on soil and water conservation, and identifying what trees do for us. On Day 2, children will conduct experiments involving magnetism, magnetic materials, electric circuits, and light spectrums. Campers will also meet the Ag Museum’s pigs and chickens. Camp will conclude with children building and testing a catapult, learning to use the microscope to look at plant and animal cells, building a model of a plant cell, and learning about the food chain by dissecting owl pellets. Parents interested in registering their child should contact Ellen Harrison at [email protected] or call 864-207-0705. Registration may also be completed online at www.BGAMSC.org. Registration closes on Aug. 1. The Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum is located in Pendleton, off Highway 76, directly across from Tri-County Technical College. Regular museum open hours are Tuesday through Friday, from noon until 5pm, and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
