Superintendent glad for Long Weekend

Today, Feb. 23, was a teacher in service day in the School District of Oconee County and Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland was glad after the week that has taken place. “It’s been a difficult week for a lot of people, certainly for parents and students who’ve had some unwarranted fears for school administrators because they’ve been investigating all these threats and rumors that have been going around. So, it has been a difficult week. We were thankful to have a teacher in service day on Friday and we’re hopeful that the long weekend will help things calm down and we can get back to a normal week on Monday.” Several middle and high schools in Oconee County spent a large portion of Wednesday dealing with threats and rumors of threats of school violence. While none of the threats were deemed creditable, two high school students were charged with disturbing school, while several other high school students were suspended for violating the district’s behavior code.
