Suspect Identified After Thursday Morning Pursuit Leaves Deputy Hospitalized

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges against a subject who was involved in a pursuit with a Sheriff’s Office deputy Thursday morning. 25 year old Brandon (aka Bradon) Lee Ashley Potter, who has an address listed as Garret Avenue in Charleston, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center and charged with one count each of Driving under Suspension, Failure to stop for a Blue Light, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle and Operating a Vehicle that is not Registered. Potter has also been charged in arrest warrants with Possession of Methamphetamine and Furnishing Contraband into a Detention Facility. After being released from the hospital, Potter was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center. Upon arrival at the Detention Center, the deputy was notified by a Detention Officer that a small bag containing a white crystal substance had fallen out of one of Potter’s pants legs. The substance was seized and placed into evidence. At this time, Potter remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center pending a bond hearing. The deputy remains hospitalized. His condition and identity have not been officially released due to privacy concerns.

The pursuit made its way towards the Tokeena Crossroads area, and eventually down Deer Knoll Drive just off Highway 59, where it came to an end and the driver of the vehicle was placed into custody after a foot pursuit.

One of the responding deputies struck a tree with their patrol vehicle and was transported by ambulance to Greenville for treatment of serious injuries. The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to investigate.

At this time, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will not be releasing the deputy’s name who was involved in the accident, nor his condition at this time, due to health privacy and safety concerns.

The driver of the vehicle being pursued was transported, upon request, to the hospital for treatment. The suspect has been identified as 25 year-old Bradon Lee Ashley Potter. The Oconee County Detention Center does not have an fixed address for Potter.

Right now he is facing charges of failure to stop for police, driving under suspension, operating an unregistered vehicle and no insurance. More charges are expected from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
