Suspects arrested in Toccoa Assault Case
Two people face charges after an altercation earlier this month in Toccoa led to an injury. Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell says that police were called to Stephens Drive just before 1am on January 19 in reference to a fight in progress in the roadway. “It appears that there were some individuals from Westminster, who had come to Toccoa to visit some other people and wound up in an altercation with some residents on Stephens Drive.” Chief Jarrell goes on to say that it appears as if it started with parties exchanging words. However, he says it escalated into a physical altercation. “One of the individuals who was involved in a fight on Stephens Drive received a laceration to their face and chest area that required stitches.” According to Chief Jarrell, another individual took the unidentified female victim to Oconee Medical Center, where she was treated and released for her injuries. Meanwhile, Chief Jarrell says that 52-year-old Mary Echols and 19-year-old Alexis Echols, both of Stephens Drive in Toccoa, were each charged with aggravated assault. Chief Jarrell says that police are still investigating the incident regarding the other parties that were involved.
