A 27-year-old Piedmont man, John Robert Simpson, died Wednesday evening after a backyard grass fire on Grantham Road got out of control. Anderson County 911 received the call at 6:40 p.m., and responders found homeowners attempting to extinguish the blaze. Simpson was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and transported to Prisma Health Greenville, where he died at 8 p.m. […]

A fire broke out Thursday afternoon at a home on 1800 Coffee Road near Westminster. Fire Chief Michael Smith reported no human injuries, but a dog died from smoke inhalation. The cause remained undetermined as of early last evening. The Red Cross is assisting the two occupants displaced by the blaze.
