Taking the Plunge to fight Domestic Violence in OC

Over 300 people took a plunge into a cold lake on Saturday to help fight domestic violence.  It was the third annual Polar Bear Plunge for Safe Harbor.  The Seneca Junior Woman’s Club hosts the yearly fundraiser as a means to raise awareness and support for victims of domestic violence.  Saturday’s plunge raised over $15,000 and the money will support opening a shelter for domestic abuse victims in Oconee County. Several local officials showed their commitment to eliminating domestic violence by plunging into the cold waters of Lake Keowee on Saturday. Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw, Assistant Tenth Circuit Solicitor Lindsey Simmons, Public Defender Wilson Burr, and Seneca High School Athletic Director Duke Lee took the plunge from a platform or walked into the cold water via the boat slip.  This year’s event at the new Lighthouse Restaurant on Lake Keowee featured games, food and music.
