Tamassee Man arrested on Grand Larceny Charge

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Tamassee man over the weekend on a charge of grand larceny, explains Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “35-year-old Chad Edwards Whitmire was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 6:12pm Sunday. The Detention Center lists Whitmire’s address as Mill Place Drive while the arrest warrant lists Whitmire’s address as Tamassee Knob Road. A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to a business location on North Highway 11 in West Union in regards to reports of a suspicious person on the property who was looking into cars in the parking lot. After deputies arrived on the scene, they noticed a Dodge Durango pulling out of the parking lot being driven by the subject of the suspicious person call, identified as Whitmire. After conducting an investigation, deputies were able to determine that the vehicle Whitmire was driving was not in fact his and belonged to someone else. Whitmire was taken into custody and transported to the Detention Center. Deputies obtained the grand larceny warrant against Whitmire for taking the 2014 Dodge Durango, which is valued at around $15,000. Whitmire was also arrested on Saturday on charges of trespassing after being located at a business address on Highway 123 between Clemson and Seneca. Whitmire had been placed on trespass notice from that location previously. He was released on Oct. 8, from the Oconee County Detention Center on a $465 personal recognizance bond.” As of noon today, Whitmire remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center a $10,000 surety bond on the grand larceny charge.
