Temporary Warming Shelter Opens in Oconee County Amid Freezing Temperatures
In response to prolonged below-freezing temperatures, a temporary warming shelter will open at the Seneca Church of God of Prophecy, located at 1016 Overbrook Drive in Seneca, South Carolina, welcoming men, women, and children (no pets allowed) seeking refuge from the cold; it will operate from 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, until 8:00 a.m. the next day, and reopen from 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, until 8:00 a.m. the following morning, with no drugs, alcohol, or weapons permitted. Residents are advised to wear layered clothing, gloves or mittens, and a hat, stay dry by changing out of wet clothes, monitor wind chill, and seek immediate shelter if experiencing symptoms of hypothermia such as uncontrollable shaking, extreme tiredness, or numbness in extremities.
