Ten killed on SC Roadways over the Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 10 persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Feb. 4, 69 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 97 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Anderson County with three deaths in 2018 compared to five in 2017 at this same time. Pickens County reports one in 2018 and four in 2017. Oconee County has experienced one roadway fatality in 2018 compared to zero in 2017 at this same time. Of the 56 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 34 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Feb. 4, seven pedestrians have died compared to 12 in 2017; two motorcyclists have died compared to six in 2017; and two bicyclists have died compared to three in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight Feb. 4, 2018.
